Canon network cameras now help monitor the birth of Guide Dog puppies

Guide Dogs Victoria is a non-profit organisation responsible for breeding and training dogs for use by vision impaired Victorians. The organisation operates a facility in Kew in Melbourne, and the Breeding Centre presides over the birth of up to 25 litters per year. Three full time staff monitor and run the breeding program, with a number of casual employees rostered in to help balance the load during busy times.

In order to minimise the disruption on dogs during the whelping process, the Guide Dogs Victoria Breeding Centre relies heavily on remote video for researching the behaviour of the dogs during different stages of birthing. Previously the organisation employed an analogue video system that was only capable of providing static images without the ability to pan and zoom. As a result, breeders had to regularly intrude on the dog during the whelping stage and after birth to ensure the health of both the mother and her litter.

Guide Dogs Victoria required a network camera solution to help them when researching and monitoring special birthing rooms, and the decision to opt for a Canon solution was made in part because of the pan and zoom capabilities of the VB-C50iR network cameras.
