Resellers advised to leverage social media

Melbourne, AUSTRALIA, 24 November 2011: At a social media seminar in Melbourne last night Alloys channel partners were encouraged to explore the business opportunities presented by social media platforms and tools.

The seminar 'How to use social media to grow your business,' which was hosted by Alloys in association with Fuji Xerox Printers, attracted over 50 resellers from the printing industry. Speaking at the event, social media practitioner Liz Marchant told attendees that social media presents many opportunities for the channel.

"Social media communication has become the most influential channel for business purchases so it is important for resellers to think about developing an effective strategy," said Marchant, Director of Write Away Communication + Events, Recognition PR and Outsource. "More than two million Australians are now on LinkedIn so it is likely that many of their customers are already using this and other social media tools to seek information and commentary about particular products and services. Establishing a social media presence with a LinkedIn profile or blog will provide a platform for resellers to engage with their customers and an opportunity to build and maintain more intimate relationships."

Anthony Toope, marketing manager with Fuji Xerox Printers Australia and New Zealand said, "Like most businesses, our channel partners are always trying to find innovative ways to communicate with customers and social media is just the next step. By adopting social media practices resellers can generate discussions, encourage two way communications with their customers and develop a powerful business network."

Kane Ford, marketing manager with Alloys said it is important for resellers to take advantage of all tools available to them. "I'm sure many resellers are aware of the numerous social media platforms and tools available. Many have already experimented but there is a lot of uncertainty around how social media can be applied as a competitive business tool. The seminar provided resellers with practical tools as well as food for thought and the inspiration to explore the opportunities available to them."
